Dealing With Low Water Pressure in Your Home

Are you fed up with having to wait forever for your shower to get hot or frustrated that your washing machine is taking forever? If so, you may be dealing with low water pressure in your home. This can be one of the most annoying problems. But don’t despair — you can take a few simple steps to get your water pressure back up where it needs to be.

Check Your Fixtures

The first step is to check all your fixtures for any impediments causing the low water pressure. If there are any blockages, such as mineral deposits or buildup, call in a professional to help clear them out. Also, make sure nothing is blocking the flow of water, such as a kink in the hose or a bent pipe. If you find any of these problems, call a plumber to resolve the issue.

Install a Main Line Pressure Regulator

A main line pressure regulator helps control the pressure of water coming into your home. It can keep water pressure consistently strong, regardless of how many fixtures are in use at once. A professional plumber can install a pressure regulator for you.

Install a Water Pressure Booster Pump

If you still find the water pressure too low, you can ask a plumber to install a water pressure booster pump. This device pumps more water into your system and increases the pressure. Your plumber will also be able to look at your water source and determine if any other issues need to be addressed.

Ask Your Water Provider

It could be that the problem is with your water provider and not plumbing-related. If you see no obvious signs of leaks or open fixtures, contact your utility company and ask if they have water pressure issues. If not, they may be able to offer other solutions, such as installing a storage tank or investing in a pressure-increasing device.

Check Your Pipes

If you’ve gone through all the previous steps and the pressure is still low, it could be that your pipes are old or clogged. Your pipes could also be too small to handle the pressure. Consider hiring a professional plumber to assess the situation and recommend solutions.

Don’t let low water pressure cramp your style. With some investigating and the right tools, you can get your home back up to a desirable level of water pressure in no time.
